Dr. Schekirke is a primary care optometrist with over 15 years of experience. He performs comprehensive routine as well as problem-focused eye examinations including pediatric eye care and contact lens fitting.
Dr. Schekirke’s love of eye care started in high school while working for a local optician answering phones and making appointments. From there, his responsibilities grew to becoming an optician, lab technician and later, while attending college, an optometric technician. When asked why he chose to be an optometrist he replied, “I enjoy that eye care differs from many other healthcare fields in that we get the opportunity to spend more one-on-one time with patients. Eyesight is so critical in most everything we do. My goal is to allow our patients to utilize that gift. I strive to help my patients see as well as
possible for as long as possible”.
Dr. Schekirke attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he majored in Biology. He received his doctorate from Southern College of Optometry where he was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the Gold Key International Honor Society and class president.
When not working Dr. Schekirke enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He can be found coaching his son’s baseball team, playing golf or hockey, or cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
